Create a Win-Win MBA Internship
As an employer, you know the key attributes of a potential hire after he or she interns for you. But what about what your intern sees as your attributes? A poll of Broad MBAs revealed student perspectives when it comes to internship experiences – and perhaps, what you should consider to maximize your reputation as an in-demand employer.
Consider these elements to maximize the effectiveness of your summer internship programs:
- Project with meaningful business impact
- Manager/mentor coaching
- Visibility with executives
Intern Spotlight
Aditya Menon
“I have learned the importance of communication and relationship building with clients to get buy-in from their side. My favorite internship experience has been staying up late to send out 3 RFPs in one night!”
Timothy Garmo
“As an MBA, the work is difficult, ambiguous, and strategic. Thus, there is never one right answer to a problem. Rather, it is more important to come to a recommendation in an unbiased manner and to justify a recommendation.”
Marc Wilson
“The projects that I’ve worked on during the summer will have a tangible effect on the business: one of my projects will result in $4.5M revenue. Having so much responsibility has given me a real opportunity to apply what I’ve learned and get to know the business.”
Mary Mays
“Some of the things I learned at the internship that couldn’t be learned in a classroom include how to make connections with people quickly in order to develop a good relationship with the client and how to manage a project and its deadlines when I depend on the work of others to complete it.”
Employer Summit
In order to provide employers with more interaction with faculty and students, Broad will hold its annual spring employer summit on campus this spring. This event allows Broad’s partners and employers to debrief on the past recruiting season, plan for the upcoming year, and engage with faculty and staff on ways to best prepare students for the workforce.
Mark your calendars for Friday, April 21. Formal invitation to follow.
Program Spotlight - EMBA
You may have heard that Broad’s Executive MBA (EMBA) program is expanding to a third campus located in downtown Detroit. You may not know that some Broad EMBAs are aspiring executives with a profile similar to full-time MBAs. A recent example includes an engineer in the EMBA program recruited to a supply chain position at a top technology company. Consider exploring this talent pool when recruiting for your next MBA position.
